Data Collection

Flapio uses your device's LiDAR sensor and camera to create 3D scans of objects. This data includes point cloud coordinates and color information captured during scanning sessions. All processing happens on your device initially, with optional cloud storage for sharing features.

When available and permitted by you, Flapio may also access Apple’s TrueDepth capabilities as part of the generic scanner. While the app does not provide a dedicated “face-scan” feature, users may point the scanner at any subject, including a face. See “TrueDepth / Face-Related Data (Optional User Action)” below for details on what may be accessed, why, and how it is handled.

Data Storage

Your 3D object scans are stored locally on your device by default. When you choose to share a scan using redeem codes, the scan data is uploaded to our secure cloud servers for sharing purposes. You can delete shared scans at any time, which will remove them from our servers.

Camera and Sensor Usage

Flapio requires access to your device's camera and sensors (including LiDAR and, on supported devices, the TrueDepth system) for 3D scanning functionality. The camera captures color information; LiDAR and/or TrueDepth provide depth information. These sensors are only active during scanning sessions and require your explicit permission.

TrueDepth / Face-Related Data (Optional User Action)

The scanner is generic. If you direct it at a face, Flapio may access the following via Apple’s TrueDepth APIs on supported devices:

  • Facial landmarks / topology (key points)
  • Blendshape coefficients (expressions), if applicable
  • Face depth map (geometry from TrueDepth)
  • Pose / orientation of the face relative to the device

Purpose. This face-related data is used solely to enable accurate alignment, measurement, and real-time guidance when a face is within the scan, improving scan consistency and usability. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or user tracking.

Processing & Retention. Face-related data is processed on device in real time and is not persistently stored by default. Temporary buffers used during an active scan are discarded immediately after use. Any derived output (e.g., a 3D model) is saved only if you explicitly save or export it.

Sharing. We do not share face-related data (landmarks, depth, blendshapes, pose) with third parties. If you choose to export or share a scan, you control what is shared; raw TrueDepth face data is not included unless you explicitly opt in via an export flow that clearly discloses its contents.

Consent & Control. Access to the camera/TrueDepth requires your permission. You can revoke permissions at any time in system settings. The app functions without scanning a face; using the scanner on non-face subjects does not collect face-related data.

Sharing and Redeem Codes

When you generate a redeem code to share a scan, the scan data is uploaded to our servers and made accessible to anyone with the code. Shared scans are stored securely and can be accessed by anyone who has the redeem code. You are responsible for sharing codes only with people you trust. Face-related raw TrueDepth data is not included in shared content unless you have explicitly opted in during export.

Data Security

All scan data is encrypted during transmission and storage. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data. Shared scans are accessible to anyone with the redeem code, so share codes only with trusted individuals.

Analytics

We collect anonymous usage statistics to improve app performance and features. Analytics do not include your scan content, point clouds, or any face-related TrueDepth data.
